Within 24 hours of retirement, former DC Ganderbal joins NC

‘I Am Impressed With The Agenda Of The Party’

Srinagar, Feb 1: State’s renowned bureaucrat Showkat Ahmed Mir joined the ruling National Conference on Friday within 24 hours of his retirement as DC Ganderbal.
Mir joined the party in presence of party Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, MoS Home & R&B Sajad A. Kichloo, NC Spokesman Tanvir Sadiq & MLC Ali Muhammad Dar besides leaders and huge crowd of workers.
On this occasion, Showkat Mir said he has all along been impressed with the agenda of the party which aims at bringing a change in the mindset about the problems facing Jammu and Kashmir, connecting people from different regions and communities and also take the state to next level of development. “This is the only party which has a vision and a solution to the Kashmir problem,” he said.
He said he will work zealously to strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Dr. Farooq Abdullah because only under their leadership the state can prosper and progress.
Welcoming Showkat into the party fold, Nasir Aslam Wani said the fact that the party is attracting talent from all sections of society including honest and dedicated officers augurs well for the politics of the state. “All the people are impressed by the leadership qualities of Omar Abdullah and from young to old, from social activist to retired officers everyone wants to be a part of NC to strengthen the hands of our leadership,” he said.
“As an officer, he has been an asset and we are sure now as a party man he will prove to be a great political activist,” said Nasir adding, “He will be given a very important assignment in the party shortly.”
“Our party is the only party which in form of the Autonomy has a viable solution to the Kashmir problem, has the courage to address employment, develop the state on modern lines, and redress the grievances of the people,” said Nasir, adding, “Unlike our adversaries who are a bunch of liars and hoodwink people with emotive slogans.”
In his address the MOS Home, Industries & Commerce & R&B Sajad Kichloo while welcoming Showkat Mir said that his joining will definitely help the party because of his people-friendly attitude and administrative acumen.
“Showkat Sahib is an honest man, his experience will help the party. He is a grass root man who has risen from there. He understands the people and will be very helpful,” said Sajad.
He said people with concern for the state’s problems should come forward and join the party where they will find the right atmosphere and platform to contribute positively to the political discourse and development of the state.
NC Spokesman Tanvir Sadiq said that many renowned names in the state political circles including leaders are in the process of joining the party in coming days and months. The party is in touch with all the disgruntled leaders and they will come back home soon, he said.
“The Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani has already begun the process and in times to come many big names will be part of our big family,” Tanvir said.
