Srinagar, Feb 2: Two policemen and a woman (government employee) allegedly involved in seduction-cum-extortion racket were remanded to 10 days police custody by a local court here on Saturday even as police is looking for another accused girl.
The woman is accused of “seducing and luring people” while cops used to “blackmail the people and draw huge sums of money from them.” “The trio then used to share the booty,” police said.
Police sources said the two cops Farooq Ahmad and Muhammad Ishaq and woman were remanded to police custody. “We carried out questioning of all accused who are in custody. We wanted more investigations into the matter,” a senior police officer told Greater Kashmir on the conditions of anonymity. He said during the questioning name of one more girl surfaced. “She is from downtown Srinagar and is at large,” the police officer said, adding that “yet we did not raid any place to look for the girl.” “She is not at home.”
The police officer said more names can erupt during the investigation. “Let us see. Investigations are going on at fast pace,” he said.
Replying to a question, the police officer said that it is premature to comment on how long the racket was going on. “Through investigations will reveal everything, at this juncture we cannot say the time of the racket,” he said.
Pertinently, Police Friday busted a seduction-cum-extortion racket with the arrest of a woman government employee and her two accomplices from the police department.
The woman is accused of seducing and luring people while the cops used to blackmail the ‘entrapped victims’ and draw huge sums of money out of them.
Soon after their arrest police registered a case FIR no. 20/2013 under section: 382/342/120-B and 510 at police station Saddar against the accused trio including the woman.
Police has also ordered an inquiry into the matter and Superintendent of Police (SP) south Srinagar, Muhammad Suleiman Chowdhary has been asked to conduct the inquiry.
The accused cops, who were posted at Police Station Sadder in south Srinagar, were detained Wednesday afternoon after it came to light, during under-cover investigations, that the duo was allegedly in league with a woman from Natipora area of the south city and extorting money under “duress of illegal activities.” The woman was subsequently also detained Wednesday evening.
Sources said the cops were allegedly in league with the woman working in the State Social Welfare Department. The woman has been arrested second time. Earlier, she faced detention allegedly for embezzling funds of the Social Welfare Department meant for widows.
