Srinagar, Feb 3: President J&K State Committee of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) M Y Tarigami has appealed people of all sections to extend support to the 2-day nationwide general strike called by 11 trade unions on February 20 and 21 in protest against the anti-people policies of the Central government.
The national convention of workers held at New Delhi on September 4, 2012 organized jointly by all the Central Trade Unions and independent federations of employees and workers gave a call to observe a countrywide two days’ general strike on February 20 and 21, 2013. “The strike is meant to press for a 10-point charter of demands concerning all sections of workers and other toiling people.
It has been for the first time that the trade unions have extended a call for a two-day general strike as the Centre was not willing to hold discussions with the trade union leaders about its reckless economic policies that are responsible for financial crisis in the country,” he said.
“On February 7, a convention of all trade unions of the Jammu and Kashmir will be held at Jammu to chalk out plans how the two-day strike will be made a huge success. All central, state employees, contractuals, daily wagers, causal labourers, Anganwari workers, helpers, Asha Workers, trade union organisations and retailers are humbly appealed to extend their support to the strike,” he added.
