JK to host Jr National Ski Championship from Feb 11
Hosts To Field 64 Member Team
Srinagar, Feb 3: For the first time J&K is going to host Junior and Sub-Junior National Alpine Ski Championship at Gulmarg from February 11 to 15.
It will be for the first time that JK would be hosting such national level junior ski event. To finalise the date and arrangements for the event, Winter Games Association of J and K held its meeting here on Saturday.
The meeting was presided over by the Association President Farooq Ahmad Shah and was attended by Deputy Director Tourism Abid Maqbool, General Manager, JKSCCC, B Jamali, Asstt. Director Tourism, Gulmarg, Dr Ilyas Nasiroo, Ex-District Youth Services and Sports Officers Abdul Rehman Dar and
G.M Parray; General Secretary, WGAJK, Shabir Ahmad Wani and Ex-University Adventure Sports Coach Muhammad Yusuf.
For smooth conduct of the event, different committees have been formed.
While briefing the meeting, Farooq Shah said that this is for the first time that J&K is hosting the Junior National Ski Championship at Gulmarg under the aegis of Winter Games Federation of India.
He said that around 200 competitors and officials of different states of the Country are expected to participate.
The host State, will field two teams comprising of 64 athletes in both boys and girls categories.
In the event there would be four age groups in each category. The competitions will be held in Slalom and Giant Slalom sections at Gulmarg and Kongdori.
WGAJK president thanked Tourism Ministry of the state for providing support for this sporting event.
Meanwhile, coaching camp for the selected team is in progress at Kongdori in which about 45 skiers in different age groups are participating.
The intensive coaching is imparted by Santosh of Himachal Pradesh and Gul Mustafa Dev.
The camp is being sponsored by the J&K State Cable Car Corporation.
