Jammu, Dec 31: A host of politicians, bureaucrats and police officers Monday greeted people of Jammu and Kashmir on New Year, hoping that it would ‘bring about peace and prosperity to the State.’
 Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended New Year greetings to people, wishing them welfare and prosperity.
 In his greetings message, the Chief Minister expressed the hope that the New Year would be “the year of the peace and progress in the State and the country.”
 Governor NN Vohra extended New Year greetings to the people and prayed for their well-being and prosperity.
 In his message of greetings, the Governor observed that 2012 has been an “important year in the history of the State, in many ways.” Recalling the developments during the year, he observed that, among other aspects, the “overall security scenario further improved and militancy-related violence remained under-control.”
 The Governor expressed hope that 2013 shall “usher in sustained peace, progress and prosperity in the State.”
 The Director General of Police Ashok Prasad greeted the family members of police martyrs and all ranks of the J&K Police. He wished a happy and prosperous “New Year” to the people of the State.
 In his message of greetings, Prasad said that during the past year, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has “made every effort to maintain public order and peace to the satisfaction of the people and to instill a sense of security among them.” “Our best efforts notwithstanding, we have to continue to strive in areas where we could have done better.”
 The DGP said that after creating conducive atmosphere, the force is “constantly maintaining pressure on the anti-national elements and is also focusing on public service and professional policing.” “While the force put in its best efforts to contain emerging situations, the cooperation from all sections of the society was critical factor behind our success in meeting these challenges, big and small,” he said.
 Prasad said a “sense of security has prevailed which was reflected by the arrival of a record number of more than 13 lakh tourists and 6.21 lakh Amar Nath Ji pilgrims during the year, boosting economy in the region.”
 The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed/Law & Order, K Rajendra Kumar also greeted the people of the State and all ranks of Jammu and Kashmir Police on the eve of New Year. He also greeted the families of cops including the martyrs’ families, wishing a them a blissful and happy New Year.
 Rajendra lauded the ‘dedication’ of J&K Police and the ‘whole-hearted’ support of the people of the State to maintaining peace and order during 2012.
 The Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra greeted people of the State on occasion of New Year.     
 Malhotra said that the State has reeled under a long spell of turmoil and prayed for its peace and prosperity. He hoped the New Year will prove as harbinger of peace and progress to the State.
 Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Shiv Murari Sahai also greeted people and all ranks of J&K police on New Year.
 Sahai hoped that the New Year will usher in prosperity and peace to J&K. He lauded the people of the Kashmir, J&K Police and other security forces for their “contribution in creating atmosphere of peace and development in the State.”
