Police fines 36 persons for smoking in public places

Srinagar, Jan 9: Police have fined 36 persons for smoking in public places in Rainawari area here during last month.
SHO Police Station Rainawari, Raja Tasleem, caught 36 persons red-handed while smoking in the premises of JLMN Hospital Rainawari and adjoining areas. A fine of Rs 6,900 was imposed on them.
Police said these persons have been fined under section 4 of Cigarette and other Tobacco (COTPA).
The Superintendent of Police north City, Tahir Saleem Khan, said Rs 5300 has been deposited in account 0070 in Government Treasury till January 4. He said rest of the amount will be deposited by end of this month.
“We will discourage smoking in public places in Shaher-e-Khaas. People found smoking at public places will be fined,” the SP said.
