Let Arjun enjoy the game, urges Sachin Tendulkar
New Delhi, Jan 11: It was a proud moment for Sachin Tendulkar the father on Thursday when he witnessed son Arjun take another step in his cricket career by getting selected for the Mumbai under-14 squad. However, the batting legend urged people to let the youngster “enjoy this beautiful game,” reported the Indian Express.
Thirteen-year-old Arjun will be part of the Mumbai squad that will take on Gujarat under-14 team in the West Zone league at Motera on January 20. Talking to Indian Express after the news of Arjun’s selection broke, Sachin was proud of his son’s achievement, which he attributed to the hard work Arjun has put in. “Like any other parent, I feel extremely happy and proud that he is part of Mumbai U-14 team. His hard work has paid off.
Arjun hit the first century of his career during the u-14 selection trials in May 2012, following which he made it to the probables’ list for the Mumbai Cricket Association training camp. During that century knock, he hit 14 fours and a six on his way to 124 that helped Khar Gymkhana down Goregaon Centre by an innings and 21 runs.
Sachin, however, urged the fans to not burden Arjun with the weight of expectations he himself carried throughout his career. “I hope that people leave him alone to enjoy this beautiful game as a normal member of the team,” he told the leading news daily.
