`The nation asks'
Why can't we control our madness, and be responsible
WRITE HAND
AJAZ UL HAQUE
A fretting fuming Goswami is out to destroy Pakistan single handedly to outdo his counterpart across the border. `The nation asks tonight' (his favorite line that sets the tune and mind you, nation means Arnob himself), `how is Pakistan allowing Hafiz Sayeed to run his network in the country'. By the way how is India allowing a deranged individual like him to run his network in the country!
The man who has the credit of converting the profession of journalism into the theatre of absurd is seen at his wildest these days. He demands arrest of all Hurriyat leaders for `meeting Hafiz Sayeed and Syed Salahudin in Pakistan'. Prime Minister of India will have to submit his report to him as Arnob demands action. Tonight.
`How could they meet him'? He grunts on the screen providing a good substitute to cartoon characters that keep our children glued to television. Children have a choice now, `Arnob Uncle brays better', a five year old kid shifts his loyalty from Pogo to Times Now. TRPs go up. Back to the question, `how could these Hurriyat people meet Hafiz and Salahudin'? An unasked question goes `why didn't they seek a proper permission from Arnob Goswami'. Whatever the version of Hurriyat leaders about the reported meeting, but if mere meeting is a punishable offense, we wish Goswami asks a question to the then foreign minister of India Jaswant Singh. How could he escort Masood Azhar to Kandhar and hand him over to those who demanded his release. Compulsions yes, but the minister did meet him and it's that meeting that infuriates Arnob so much that his dangerously dilated nostrils refuse to squeeze down to their usual.
It is a real piece of entertainment how he makes his guests utter what he wants to listen from them. Exhausting all his invectives, adjectives, expletives and coercing his panelists to repeat the same can be anything but journalism. Fun apart, if a hate speech of Syed Akbaruddin warrants arrest for it arouses people to violence where will you place this? Though no sane person takes such rants seriously, but these drumbeaters do cater to a large C-grade D-grade viewership which forms the bulk of India. Cheaper the stuff they are fed with, crazier they go.
In a hate-charged atmosphere we need responsible journalism. Reign in the delirious.
