Anti-PDD protest held at Batamaloo
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Jan 14: Massive protest was held at Mirabad Batamaloo area here on Monday against the the Power Development Department (PDD) for plunging the area into darkness for past over two weeks.
Hundreds of people including women took to streets and accused the PDD of inordinate delay in repairing a damaged transformer there.
They said since the day of installation of the transformer, it has been frequently developing snags due to overloading.
“We have been demanding installation of another transformer in the locality to overcome the crisis. Even the local legislator Irfan Shah has already released funds for procuring the transformer. Ironically, the PDD authorities are using dilly-dallying tactics to install the transformer,” they alleged.
They said the PDD has failed to repair the old transformer in the area causing immense inconvenience to them. “Inaction of the PDD has forced us to take to streets. We have many times approached the concerned Executive Engineer and Junior engineer but our pleas met with deaf ears,” they said.
Pertinently, Srinagar City has been witnessing protests against power crisis since last month.
