Charas recovered from couple at Nowhatta

Srinagar, Jan 14: Police on Monday arrested a couple and recovered charas and Rs 80,000 during a raid at Nowhatta area in Shahar-e-Khaas.
Acting on a specific tip off, a police party from Nowhatta police station led by SHO Nowhatta (DYSP on probation) Nehar Ranjan rushed to Sheikh Colony and arrested the duo. 50 grams of charas and Rs 80,000 were recovered from their possession.
Police said the couple (names withheld) used to sell narcotics among drug addicts.
Superintendent of north City Tahir Saleem said police was receiving complaints of the couple selling charas to drug addicts.
“We managed to catch them red handed while selling the charas. During the raid, they tried to conceal charas in their pockets. We recovered 26 grams of charas and Rs, 30,000 from a man while rest of the amount and charas was recovered from the possession of his wife,” the SP said.
The SP said the accused woman has been lodged at Women’s police station.
A case vide FIR no.04/2013 under section 8/20 NDPS act has been registered at Police Station Nowhatta. Meanwhile, locals have hailed the police action.
