Jackson Bird happy with his own bowling speed

Sydney, Jan 14: University student Jackson Bird, who has been compared to the great Glenn McGrath, said that despite the apparent need for speed in modern cricket, he would never allow himself to be pressured into trying to bowl faster than he could.
Bird, 26, who unleashes the ball at between 130km/h and 140km/h, finished the SCG Test with the man-of-the-match award, and also has an offer to play in English county cricket and a suggestion he could become the sport’s new cult hero, reports Sydney Morning Herald.
Bird said he gets into trouble if he tries to bowl a bit too fast, and added that he bowls within himself to maintain his accuracy and that he has learnt a lot over the last 18 months that he can bowl not too quick but still take wickets.
He said he has built up that accuracy and that is not going to change. Bird said he is never going to be an express bowler and will work with what he has got.
Bird said his immediate focus was to shine for the Melbourne Stars and Tasmania’s Sheffield Shield pace attacks.
Bird’s manager Tony Connelly said they would discuss with Cricket Australia which they thought more beneficial: for Bird to build up his strength and fitness in Australia or gain experience in county cricket with the Dukes ball that will be used in the upcoming Ashes series. ANI
