Srinagar, Jan 14: Jammu and Kashmir continued to remain in the grip of cold wave on Monday even as mercury rose across Kashmir Valley for the third consecutive day.
While Kargil in frontier region of Ladakh remained the coldest recorded place in state with a minimum of minus 16.4 degrees, nearby Leh shivered at a low of minus 15.2 degrees against yesterday's 10.2 degrees Celsius.
Mercury in Srinagar continued to settle at 1.6 degrees Celcius for the second day, Met officials said.
While Kupwara town of north Kashmir recorded a low of 0.3 degrees Celsius, mercury in Kokernag in south Kashmir settled 1.8 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir, which serves as the base camp during the annual Amarnath Yatra, recorded a low of zero degrees, while the highway township of Qazigund recorded a low of 1.8 degrees Celsius, they said.
Skiing resort of Gulmarg recorded the lowest night temperature of minus 8.6 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Monday stated that on 15.01.2013 (Tuesday) all kinds of vehicles would be allowed to travel from Jammu side towards Kashmir in a regulated manner, subject to fair weather conditions and good condition of road.
“However, all vehicles are required to cross TCP Nagrota by 13.00 hours, Udhampur by 14.30 hours and TCP Banihal by 22.00 hours beyond which no vehicle shall be allowed to proceed towards Kashmir for onward journey,” he said.
