SMC kick-starts Biological Remediation Unit at Achan

Srinagar, Jan 14: Srinagar Muncipal Corporation (SMC) on Monday launched state-of-the-art Biological Remediation Unit for prevention of bad odor emanating from lone garbage dumping site of the summer capital at Achan here.
In a statement a spokesperson of SMC the entire set up had come through a prominent Mumbai based agency Guru Dev International Mumbai which has been funded by J&K ERA.
The unit was inaugurated by Joint Commissioner SMC Fayaz Ahmed Balla. “SMC is developing a culture of having environment friendly bacteria which would be sprayed on the leach ate and the garbage dumped over there so that the site remains free of stink,” Balla said.
“We are taking up multi measures on the directions of High Court for the implementation of Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling Rules2000),” Balla said.
