Srinagar Jan 17: Various public delegations on Thursday called on Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence and apprised him about problems faced by people of their respective areas.
“Though the Hurriyat was actively pursuing the freedom struggle, still it is also concerned about the day-to-day problems faced by common Kashmiris. Hurriyat would play its part in highlighting the public issues faced by the common people as being their representative,” Mirwaiz according to Hurriyat spokesman told these delegations.
The spokesman said a delegation from Rainawari Chowk in Shaher-e-Khaas informed Mirwaiz that the administration has undertaken widening of the road in the area but during the process, it was demolishing shops, thus rendering scores of people jobless. “Government is paying meager compensation compared to the loss of our property during the road widening process. We are not against widening of roads, but we should be given alternative source of employment and proper compensation as per the present market price,” the delegation from Rainawari told Mirwaiz.
The spokesman said a delegation from Umar Colony, Lal Bazaar apprised Mirwaiz about unavailability of gas, electricity and drinking water in the area.
“There is shortage of essential items in the market and their prices are sky rocketing,” the delegation told Mirwaiz.
“Being the religious head of Kashmiris, these delegations appealed Mirwaiz to take steps to bring reforms in society and help in eradicating social ills and growing immoral activities in the society,” the Hurriyat spokesman added.
