Geelani calls for shutdown on Jan 26
Srinagar, Jan 18: The chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on has called for complete shutdown on January 26.
In a statement today from New Delhi, Geelani said, “New Delhi has no moral or constitutional right to celebrate its Republic day in Jammu and Kashmir as it has denied its (J&K’s) people their right to self-determination. Neither do we as a nation have any sort of prejudice or enmity against India or its people, nor do we dislike its fortune, but it has never honored its word with regard to referendum in Jammu and Kashmir. We wish that our demand with regard to self-determination be accorded due regard and people be provided an opportunity to express their aspiration with regard to their political destiny and future.”
Paying rich tributes to martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara, Geelani has appealed people to observe shutdown on January 21, 25 and 27, in these places and adjoining areas to commemorate martyrdom anniversary of these martyrs.
Geelani has appealed to the international bodies to investigate the gruesome incidents and carnages and take action against those forces involved in war crimes as per norms and law.
