Gulmarg Ski Cup begins
Srinagar, Jan 20: The three-day Gulmarg Ski Cup organised by Tourism department in collaboration with Hoteliers Club Gulmarg started at Gulmarg on Sunday.
The event was inaugurated by Director Tourism, Talat Parvez in presence of Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Director Pine Palace Mir Mudasir, Director Khyber Resort Gulmarg, Umar Tramboo, MD Alpine Ridge Dr Ifshaan and Hotel Grand Mumtaz representative.
On the inaugural day selection trials in all the five categories is in both boys and girls sections were held. The competitions are being in Slalom and Giant Slalom events in senior, junior-1, junior-2, children-1 and children-2 categories in both boys and girls section. In total around 115 competitors participated in preliminary rounds. Those who qualified the preliminary rounds will participate in the main event on Monday and Tuesday.
“The Championship is being sponsored by the Hoteliers Club. Hundreds of boys and girls turned up today for the trials. The department has chalked out number of winter sports activities this year,” said Director Tourism, Talat Parvez. Giving details about the event and future events Director Pine Palace, Mir Mudasir who is also part of the organising committee said, “It is first time that we Hoteliers Club and other concerned authorities like Tourism Department, GDA, Winter Games Association, Cable Car Corporation have joined hands together to keep Gulmarg abuzz with activities all through the winter season”.
“We have plans in pipeline and we are hopeful that all those plans would come out as success,” he added.
