Expedite investigations: Court to SSP
Hajj aspirants cheated

Srinagar, Jan 23: A local court here on Wednesday directed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar to ensure expeditious and uninfluenced investigation in a case pertaining to misappropriation of Rs 2.40 crores. The court asked the SSP to file the status report within a week. Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar, Rajeev Gupta passed the direction on a an application titled state through Nazir Ahmad Matoo versus Mehjoor Ahmd Khan proprietor of ALBALAG HAJJ Umrah Tour Services, seeking directions to the SSP for a fair investigation into the case.
The accused along with his wife have allegedly received an amount Rs. 2.40 crores from Hajj and Umrah aspirants who were willing to go on pilgrimage during 2012. Police Station Shaheed Gunj in whose jurisdiction the office ALBALAG HAJJ Umrah Tour Services falls has already registered an FIR (83/2012) against the accused.
The applicant has alleged that the investigation in the matter is not being conducted fairly stating it is going at snail’s pace.
“How much money has been recovered till date and what measures have been taken by the police recover the money of the Hajj aspirants is not known. The police are not disclosing the details to the Hajj and Umrah aspirants” reads the application. He has alleged that the accused husband – wife duo have hatched a criminal conspiracy to grab the amount from the Hajj pilgrims and should have been booked under sections 420,409,120B and 295A of RPC. “The accused have been booked in a bailable offence for the reasons best known to the police officials” reads the application. While the applicant prayed that the case be transferred to crime branch or special investigation team (SIT) be constituted for proper investigation, the court directed the SSP to ensure a fair probe and file report wit in a week.”
