Ask any Muslim about his or her love for Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and he or she will answer, “Fidayak Ya Rasool Allah. Sincerely yours, we believe what we tell ourselves Allah’s Messenger Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is dearer to us than any wealth or riches, dearer than our own selves. He is dearer to us than any worldly temptation.” Muslims all over the world share a deep and passionate love of the Prophet (SAW). The Holy Qur'an says: "The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves." (33:6.)
Love for the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is not only a condition but also a measure of one's iman (faith and inner conviction), which is not supposed to be complete and perfect until his or her love for the Prophet (SAW) exceeds the love for everything else in this world.. In an authentic hadith saying, “We were with the Prophet (SAW) and he was holding the hand of Syedna Omar Ibnul-Khattab. Syedna Omar (RA) said to him, ‘O Allah's Messenger! You are dearer to me than everything except my own self.’ And The Prophet said, ‘No, by Him in Whose Hand my soul is, (you will not have complete faith) till I am dearer to you than your own self.’ Then Syedna Omar (RA) said to him, ‘However, now, by Allah, you are dearer to me than my own self.’ The Prophet said, ‘Now, O Omar, (now you are a believer).’( Al-Bukhari in Al-jame’ Al-sahih) A person under pretext of right to speech feels free and his ‘right to insult’ creates nothing more than intolerance, disharmony and division within the society. Both Muslims and Non-Muslims bear testimony to the excellent character of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He is a turning point in the course of humanity and messenger of peace, mercy, and mutual coexistence.
The true followers of Prophet (SAW) take him as a role model when it comes to the application of Islam in their daily lives. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the man who taught us to live in this world from the time of cradle to the grave, from the comfort room to bedroom; home to street; and in matters pertaining either to the religious, personal or business affairs; from the time we wake up in the morning to the time we retire to the bed. Prophet (SAW) guided us about the relationship between the individual and the society and the ultimate goal to seek eternal life in the hereafter. It was to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that Allah (st) revealed the Quran, “O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And one who invites to Allah, by His permission, and an illuminating lamp. And give good tidings to the believers that they will have from Allah great bounty.” (Ahzab)
Bitterness does not bring any good for anyone. A major part of the Prophet’s mission was to bring peace to the world. Whoever you are and whatever ideological, religious or political beliefs, social habits you may hold, you should spend some time to know this Person better. Surely over time, and with enough effort, you can change the way you think, feel, and act. A healthy, loving relationship based on humanistic values, stressing human dignity, harmony, mutual respect of beliefs and faiths can enhance many aspects of our already economically surcharged lives.
The reality of loving the Prophet (SAW): To love him, revere him, and follow his Sunnah, the practices of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that he taught and practically instituted in every public and private aspect, is the meaning of love for the Prophet (SAW) to the majority of his true followers. Having proper love for Allah's Messenger (SAW) is a must for any Muslim who is striving to please his or her Lord and who seeks his or her Lord's forgiveness. Our love for the Prophet (SAW) is also expressed by sending salutations to him all the times, unrestricted, unlimited over and over again. A verse in the Holy Qur'an mentions, "Undoubtedly, Allah  and His angels love, glorify and bless the Prophet. O believers! You (too) love, glorify and bless the Prophet and salute him with all due respect." (33:56).
True love, in the Prophet's (SAW) eyes was therefore obedience to his Sunnah and following his path. Love also Means Obedience: "Say (to mankind O Muhammad), If you love God, follow me (and) God will love you..." (3:31).Where is this obedience in our daily lives today? Adab and Akhlaq is not lacking in our lifestyle, but we see clear violation of his teachings at our homes, our workplaces, streets, our weddings, our festivals and in our mourning as well. Do we refrain from doing something because the Prophet (SAW) had forbidden or disliked it? Can we give up our vain desires, corrupt practices, unhealthy customs and traditions and instead prefer His Sunnah in order to obey the Prophet (SAW). Allah (st) has confirmed this with His statement: "You have indeed a good example in the Messenger of Allah (st) for whosoever hopes for Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much." (Qur'an Al-Ahzab: 21).
Let us therefore wholeheartedly and generously reiterate to follow His teachings and express all the love and admiration for the Prophet (SAW).
