The greatest of all
His message is not for a community, but for entire humanity. May peace be upon him
“By the Qur'an, full of Wisdom Thou art indeed one of the apostles”. Furthermore Quran very emphatically brings to fore the truth about Prophet Muhammad’s SAW real stature: “And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held).
May Allah bless the soul of Dr. Israr Ahmed. He was not only a true Islamic scholar but practitioner of his belief also. What he ardently professed during his entire lifetime he also staunchly believed that. This starkly distinguishes him from the many professional propagators in circulation these days, wherein one can easily discover a huge contradiction between the practice and the spoken word. Dr. Israr in one of his very famous speeches quoting some Western sources fully establishes the fact that Prophet (SAW) has a very unique distinction that in the human history he is the only messenger who could bring about a true revolution based upon his teachings that too during his blessed lifetime only.
The Western scholars though full of bias yet couldn’t obfuscate the truth that Prophet (SAW) is the only reformer what they describe as having been successful in both spiritual and secular spheres. This is the real flaw in the Western thinking that it understands the spiritual life divorced from that of affairs of a state and has developed the philosophy of separation of the church from the state. This is not the time to discuss what havoc the absence of any moral control has brought over the modern life. However the revolution that Prophet SAW ushered-in, that holds true to our times also, can never be separated into two; secular and spiritual. It was simply an enlightened self that awakened the society. It was not merely a state that was created nor was it a system that came into being, it was through and through the nature of the Time that was transformed. The message of Prophet SAW is not confined to a particular race, region or a timeframe. The sacred message that’s known to the faithful as the final sermon, delivered by Prophet SAW on the Ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, 10 A.H (623AD) in the Uranah valley of Mount Arafat in Makkah, in every respect transcends the boundaries of a particular timeframe.
The scholars are still baffled that it was not just the revaluation that appeared or for that matter only a state which came into being. That day for the first time in the history of civilization, a new social order based upon true equality was established. When before that day the following words were uttered by any reformer with such crystal clarity: “All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a White has no superiority over a Black nor a Black has any superiority over a White except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly”. The Prophet (SAW) that day clearly laid down the foundation of real charter of human rights significantly that also included the rights of women: “O People it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women but they also have rights over you”. Moreover never before that day the sanctity of life was described as forcefully as Prophet emphasised: “O People! just as you regard this month, this day ,this city as sacred ,so regard the life and property of every Muslim a sacred trust”. Don’t we hear the message that the Prophet has declared the sanctity of life more sacred than the holy city of Mecca and the month of Dhul-Hijjah? “O People! listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers, fast during month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Haj if you can afford it”. These are the basic commands a faithful in the words of last sermon is expected to follow yet going astray is described as “do not therefore do injustice to yourselves”. The message is loud and clear: “O People! No Prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore O People! and understand words that I convey to you”. Reasoning, yes the emphasis is undoubtedly on logic and rationale, hardly our forte these days. And the Prophet SAW ordained his followers for all the times to come: “All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly”. The work of revolution still continues it will be ending with the end of civilization only.
The beauty of Prophet’s (SAW) message is that neither is it separatist nor confined to a time. It’s to rescue the entire human race from the clutches of tyranny for all the times to come. More than the change of any system what is envisaged is to change the nature of the time. And the imagined change is not limited to a particular society, the entire humanity is to be elevated from the moral abyss that’s the basic impart of Prophet SAW’s eternal message.
