NLCO for restoration of water bodies

Srinagar, Jan 28: Chairman, Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, has urged Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora to take measures for restoration of Dal and Nigeen lakes and other water bodies.
Wangnoo said under the leadership of Jora, Tourism sector in the state received a major boost. “We hope under his leadership, the water bodies in Kashmir that are the main attractions for the tourists, would get a new lease of life.” “We hope the minister will take the restoration job of Dal, Nigeen and other lakes in the Valley seriously and on priority,” he said.
Wangnoo said that NLCO was demanding since long the extension of Nigeen lake up to Saida Kadal, beautification of Pokhribal and other water bodies like Khusalsar, Gilsar and Anchar. He said it was unfortunate that the three water bodies namely Khusalsar, Gilsar and Anchar have become almost dead and needed immediate restoration.
He also demanded proper rehabilitation of the Dal dwellers. “We will facilitate Jora’s visit to interiors of Dal and other water bodies so that he can make on spot assessment,” he said. Wangnoo said the NLCO has resolved to make Kashmir green this year.
