DGP sanctions scholarships for 352 wards of police personnel

Jammu, Jan 2: The Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Prasad Wednesday sanctioned scholarships worth Rs. 16.5 lakhs in favour of 352 wards of police personnel and martyrs.
The scholarships, sanctioned out of Central Police Fund, have been ordered for the wards of martyrs including the meritorious wards of serving personnel for the academic year 2011-12.
Announcing the scholarships, Prasad stressed upon the wards to get modern education and perform excellent in different competitions. He said that the Organization is providing assistance to the wards to boost their morale so that they could continue their studies and excel in varied competitive examinations.
The DGP reiterated that the Organization is highly concerned about the education of police wards and has taken various steps to provide quality educations these wards.
He said the Police Public Schools have been established at all range headquarters and the higher secondary schools functioning in twin capital cities are equipped with latest techniques of education, producing good results.. He said free education is provided to the wards of deceased personnel with hostel facilities to make them able to excel at different levels.
More than 0.50 lakhs have been sanctioned for the purchase of uniform, books and stationery for the children studying in Police Public School Miran Sahib Jammu, Prasad said.
Giving details the DGP said that the beneficiaries include 13 students studying professional courses, 32 wards doing post graduation and graduation in different subjects and 307 studying in varied classes from nursery to 10+2. He said that the wards are provided the financial assistance annually from the Central Police Welfare Fund which is a contributory fund with all ranks of the force its members. He said that the Organisation would continue its efforts to provide better educational atmosphere to its wards and make them self reliant and bread winner for their families. They are also provided free coaching and counselling for professional courses to help them in choosing their better career, he added.
