HCBA team to provide legal aid to detainees

Srinagar, Jan 2: A 16-member team of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association led by its president advocate Z A Qureshi is visiting different jails in and outside Kashmir to provide necessary legal aid to the detainees.  Besides Qureshi, the team comprises advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, Ex-President HCBA,  Aijaz Bedar, vice-president HCBA, Muhammad Ashraf Bhat, general secretary, and members including GN Shaheen, Rafiq Ahmad Joo, Onkar Singh, Bashir Sidiq, Syed Manzoor, M S Reshi, Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Mudasir Gulzar and Tufail Qadri. It also includes joint secretary, Bilal Ahmad Wani and treasurer  Shabir Ahmad Budoo.
“The permission for visiting the jails was sought by the Bar Association on December 28,  2012,  from the Hon’ble High Court in O.W.P. No. 767/2007. The aim of the visit is to provide necessary legal aid and assistance to the detainees and under-trial prisoners of Jammu and Kashmir lodged in these jails,” a Bar spokesman said in a statement.
