GK NEWS NETWORK
Jammu, Jan 29: In its first conviction, a Fast Track Court constituted for trial of cases about crimes against women, sentenced a man involved in a gangrape for rigorous imprisonment of 17 years and fine.
Issuing general arrest warrants against other accused involved in the case, who were earlier declared as absconders, Sanjeev Gupta Presiding Officer Fast Track Court convicted Govind Singh son of Kuber Paul Singh of Janora Tehsil Vilsi district Badayun UP for outraging modesty of a 17 year old girl in June 2009.
“Rape cases and the cases relating to crime against women have alarmingly increased in the recent past. The social impact of the crime particularly when it relates to offences against women cannot be lost sight of and per-se it requires exemplary treatment”, the court said.
Any liberal attitude by imposing meager sentences, it held, would prove counterproductive in the long run. “Undisputedly, the victim was about 17 yrs of age at the time of occurrence of the crime and she was subjected to repeated forcible sexual inter-course by the accused, without her consent at different places under threat after kidnapping her from her house”.
The convict, as per prosecution case, had abducted the victim with the connivance of other accused including Goldy, Prithpal Singh, Passna wife of Prith Pal Singh and Narinder all residents of Janora and were residing as tenants in the house of the victim.
