PDD casual labourers demand wages

AAQIB ASHRAF

Srinagar, Jan 29: Thousands of casual laborers working in Power Development Department (PDD) are up in arms against the department for failing to pay their wages.
Casual laborers, who are presently on strike, today demanded full payment of their wages which according to them have been withheld for more than 8 months.
A delegation of casual laborers told Greater Kashmir that authorities have been delaying the verification process of casual laborers without any reason. “Our department has sent number of reminders to the concerned authorities to start the process,  as it is mandatory for reimbursement of wages, but till date nothing has been done,” said Syed Iqbal President All J&K PDD Casual laborers Union.
“If our wages are not released till February 15 we will stage protest with our families in front of Chief Minister’s residence,” said Farooq Ahmad Vice-President of All J&K PDD Casual laborers Union.
When contacted Chief Engineer PDD Muzaffar Matoo said: “Verification process has started and it will be over in the stipulated time,”
