JK tops its group, qualifies for knockout stage
U-19 COOCH BEHAR TROPHY
Srinagar, Jan 3: Making the whole state proud and giving some bright moment to cheer for J&K Cricket Association (JKCA), the Under-19 cricket team has topped their plate group-A of Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy, qualifying for the knockout stage.
The JK topped the points table in its group alongside Gujarat with 23 points. However on the basis net run rate, JK qualified for the knockout stage as number one team from group. It is first time that JK has topped the group in the Under-19 cricket. JK in its knockout match will play against Barooda on January 5 at Baroda.
The team has been superb through out the event winning three matches out of five played while drew two. Batting was lead by players like Ahmed Umer Banday, Shiban Khajuria, Paras Sharma and Hisham Saleem while bowling was lead by Umer Nazir and Rohit Sharma.
Hailing team for the win JKCA Treasurer Manzoor Wazir said, “It is amazing to see youngsters performing like this. These youngetsers have got lot of talent and I am hopeful that they will go on to win their knock stage match as well”.
“It shows that we have got talent in abundance and future looks bright. Some of the players will definitely shine for Ranji trophy team in next couple of years,” he added.
Meanwhile J&K Sports Development Association (JKSDA) has hailed the players for their performance and has termed it only bright spot in otherwise dark days of JK Cricket.
“The youngsters have performed superbly and have given something to cheer for JK cricket fans. Otherwise for last one year JK cricket has been battling one scandal after another,” said JKSDA joint secretary Reyaz Wani.
“It is players and not the administration that deserve applause. In our opinion players should be felicitated for their performance,” he added.
