Untoo files petition in SHRC against Acid Attack

Srinagar, Jan 3: A human rights group, International Forum for Justice and Human Rights, Thursday filed a petition in the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) against the Wednesday’s acid attack on a 30-year old woman, seeking stringent action against the perpetrators.
The petition filed by Chairman of the Forum, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo appealed the Commission to take immediate cognizance of the ‘gruesome act of acid throwing’ and ensure safety of women folk.
“These kinds of acts need to be stopped through enforcement of stringent laws,” the petition said. It said the “free sale and availability of acid should be banned and the users should be made accountable.”
The petition further appealed SHRC to issue immediate order considering seriousness of the act.
