Don’t advocate readymade solutions: Geelani to separatists
Musharraf Divided Hurriyat: Sehrai
Srinagar, Jan 5: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday asked separatist groups not to advocate Musharaff’s four point formula or any other readymade solution for resolving the Kashmir issue.
Without naming any group Geelani while addressing a seminar “Dignified, Democratic, Lasting solution of Kashmir Issue-Self Determination” here over phone from New Delhi said: “We don’t want confrontation with anyone, but we won’t tolerate anyone working against Kashmir cause and advocating Musharaf’s formula or any other ready made solutions. We will openly come against such elements. They talk about economic packages, four point formula, self rule, opening of routes. Let us tell them that they are derailing from the real cause.”
Geelani said that if they “don’t mend their ways” his conglomerate would be left with no other option other than “confronting them.”
Geelani asked Pakistan to come out clear on their policies on Kashmir and it should be included as core issue between two countries, “Those who play in the hands of India would not only harm themselves but coming generations as well.”
Geelani said that Englishmen helped Congress to “annex” Kashmir and unfortunately later on they did not even ask India to fulfill its promise of holding a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.
Geelani alleged that Congress had a history of playing deceptive politics. “According to two nation theory Congress had agreed that Maharajas would not have a say in the princely states in deciding the future of their people. But in case of Kashmir they made Maharaja’s will as a base to occupy Kashmir. Later lakhs of Muslims were killed in Jammu and thousands migrated to Pakistan.”
Geelani said that India is continuing its policy of holding on to Kashmir on the dint of gun. “Kashmir is so tense that every person here is a militant. So gun is the only solution,” he quoted ex-Governor of JK, Jagmohan as having said in 1990’s.
Blaming the government for promoting moral degradation and drugs to crush the sentiment, Geelani said, “Moral degradation is rampant in Kashmir, drugs are being promoted so that no one can fight for a cause. But truth is that our own people are also involved in it.”
On the recent firing incident at Pulwama, Geelani said that joining of thousands of people in the funeral prayers of militants provoked forces to fire on civilians, “Many persons were injured when they came to attend funeral prayers of militants. Forces could not tolerate it,” he added.
Reiterating his demand to stone rapists of a Delhi medical student to death, Geelani at the same time questioned the silence of people in raising voice against rapes in Kashmir, “She is like our daughter, but where was that consciousness when our daughters were raped. Why not hundreds of rapes in Kashmir move Indians,” he questioned. Gautam Navlkha and Aurundathi have also asked the same question to Indian people, but they are not ready to accept it.”
Chiding ex- Union Home Minister, L K. Advani for defending rapes committed by forces in Kashmir, Geelani said, “Advani says that forces will be morally down by the investigations against them. He believes in my nation right or wrong, my leader right or wrong. Their nationalism is based on falsehood.”
Hurriyat (G) General secretary Ghulan Nabi Sumji also castigated the people who are saying that the UN resolutions have become irrelevant. “It is unfortunate that some leaders are saying that UN resolutions are outdated. We do not have any complaints with Abdullah, Mufti, Tarigami and other mainstream parties and politicians. But we need to expose those people who under the garb of Hurriyat are hell bent upon harming the Kashmir struggle. They are doing more harm to the struggle than doing any good,” Sumji said
Senior Hurriyat leader of the Hurriyat, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai revealed that Musharraf divide the Hurriyat Conference, “he divided us, but Pakistan is not Musharraf or Benazir or her husband. Pakistan people will always rally behind Kashmir cause.”
Others who spoke on the occasion included Professor Hameeda Nayeem, ZGM, Abdul Majid Zargar, Ayaz Akbar, Professor Ashai, Dr Javad Iqbal. Moulvi Bashir and Abdul Ahad Parra.
