Healthcare government’s most important concern: CM
Inaugurates Nursing College, Genetic Centre, lays foundation of OPD Block, Sarai at SKIMS
Srinagar, Jan 5: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Saturday said that his government has focused health care sector as one of the important concerns in the State’s development policy.
Inaugurating Madr-e-Meherban College of Nursing and Genetic Study and Clinical Research Centres,
the CM said that the vision of creating an apex institute of modern health facilities in Srinagar was envisioned by Late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah to provide latest medical treatment to the people within the State.
“Though growth and development of SKIMS received jolt due to turmoil in the Valley, the institution provided best possible medicare to the people in all times. My government wants the institution to achieve new highs and be at par with AIIMS and other reputed health institutions in the Country,” the CM said while addressing a gathering at the function.
“Sheikh Sahib’s desire of a full-fledged modern hospital at Soura now rechristened as Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences was aimed at serving twin purposes of providing modern medical treatment to the people and encouraging medical tourism in the Valley. Sheikh Sahib also established Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar to supplement his idea and pave the way for better health care treatment to people alongwith generating economic activities,” CM said.
On the occasion the CM also laid foundation stone of OPD emergency block and Sarai at SKIMS.
“My government would provide all possible help to the institutions to grow and attain one of the best position in health care institutions of the country.” he said.
The CM who was accompanied by Director SKIMS, Prof. Showkat Ali Zargar also interacted with faculty members and received first hand appraisal of the functioning of the institute.
