Christmas Gold Cup football tournament kicks off
Development Of Sports Infrastructure Priority Of Government: Chib
Jammu, Jan 6: Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib on Sunday inaugurated 7th Christmas Gold Cup football tournament at Mini Stadium Jammu which has been organized by All J&K Christian Welfare Association as a part of Christmas celebration.
The Minister said that the development of sports infrastructure is the priority of present government, adding that various steps have been initiated in this regards.
He said various stadia and playgrounds have been developed on modern lines for providing added facilities to the youth.
He said a playground is being equipped with Astro-turf in Srinagar, adding that the proposal for equipping GGM Science College playground with Astro-turf has been sent to the Centre for approval.
Chib thanked Union Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sports for sanctioning 2 Sports Training Centres (STC) each costing Rs. 10 crore for providing quality training to the budding players of the state.
As many as 20 teams from state are participating in the tournament. The matches of the tourney would be played at Mini- Stadium and Government Gandhi Science College playground on knock-out basis. The inaugural match was played between Jammu United and Engineers-XI.
