Srinagar,Jan 6: Police has started tightening the noose around tuition centers in Srinagar and now onwards the boys and girls would have to take classes in separate shifts. The step police says is one of the fall-outs of recent acid attack on a girl in Parraypora area of uptown Srinagar.
 Police has convened an important meeting of the heads of all the coaching centers at District Police Lines (DPL) Srinagar on Tuesday. The police have also made a census of coaching centers in Srinagar and the law enforcing agency says that there is mushroom growth of such centers in and around the city.
 “In Parraypora area only we have found 46 Coaching Centers. There might be some more,” a senior police official posted in uptown Srinagar told Greater Kashmir on conditions of anonymity adding that data-collection of all such centers across the city is on.
 The senior police official said that since the acid attack on a girl in Parraypora area last week, further reinforcement of cops has been made outside the coaching centers.
 The police official said that the acid attack has made the parents apprehensive about the safety of their wards especially in view of the menacingly growing rowdiness around these centres. “Today everybody is more worried about the safety of their children,” he said and added that this is one of the important factors for keeping a close watch on the activities around these coaching centers. “We don’t want that any such incident should recur in future,” the police official said.
 He said that most of the people want that coaching centers must be properly regulated and made to operate under rules and regulations framed by the Government. “Some of the coaching centers are being run in tin sheds and thousands of rupees are being amassed from the students as tuition fee,” the police official said and added that apart from security measures, the law enforcing agencies will ask the owners of these centers to ensure proper accommodation facilities for boys as well as girls. “Most of the coaching centers are accommodating over 200 students in a single room with a capacity to accommodate not more than around 80 students”, the police official added.
 The official said that at the same time the law enforcing agencies won’t allow these places become hubs of immorality. “We do not want see anti-social elements like eve-teasers around the coaching centers. As later these acts take ugly turn,” he said and added that separate classes for boys and girls will help police to monitor things in a better way.
 Speaking to Greater Kashmir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Syed Aashiq Hussain Bukhari admitted that they are going for meeting with the owners of coaching centers. “Yes the meeting has been scheduled on Tuesday,” he said. SSP Bukhari said that the law enforcing agencies will ensure classes in shifts for boys and girls. “This will help us in monitoring the things in a proper way,” he said.
 Earlier on January 3, Director School Education Kashmir Muhammad Shafi Rather had told Greater Kashmir that the private coaching centers won’t be allowed to flout norms governing admissions and accommodation facilities. He had added that Government is mulling action against coaching centers lacking infrastructure adding “it is high time to keep a vigil on such centers. “We have given 15 days time to coaching centers to get their registration/permission formalities completed under the Jammu and Kashmir Regulation of Private Tuition Centre (Rules 2010), failing which action shall be initiated against the defaulters,” Rather had said.
