Gool bloodbath evokes widespread condemnation

‘Take strict action against accused’

Srinagar, July 19: Various political, social and religious organizations have strongly condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran and indiscriminate firing by the police and BSF personnel on the peaceful protesters at Gool in Ramban district in which four civilians were killed and scores of others injured, terming it as ‘inhuman and barbaric act.’

Jamaat-e-Islami
Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) while condemning these incidents, appealed the International Human Rights Forums to take immediate notice and fix the responsibility upon the violators.
It has also rejected the ‘concocted, misleading and fabricated’ story of the Inspector General BSF justifying the massacre at Dharam Gool on July 18.
“The 1931 killings by Dogra police, Jalianwala Bagh mass killing by General Dyer and all such type of massacres were always justified by the imperialist forces in the similar manner” Jamaat spokesman Adv Zahid Ali said in a statement today.

HURRIYAT (M)
Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar while condemning the killings paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Gool and expressed sympathy with the injured and inhabitants of Ramban. “People of Ramban should not feel alone in these testing times. Hurriyat and people of entire Jammu and Kashmir were standing united with them in their support,” Mirwaiz said.
Mirwaiz rubbished the claims of IG BSF and state home minister that a local teacher of Dar-ul-Uloom instigated people which led to the bloodbath in Gool. Mocking at their statements, he said “these were highly regrettable statements that instead of indicting erring troopers they were blaming innocent civilians for the tragedy.”
“Forces in Kashmir have official licenses to kill innocent people whenever they wish. He said nobody would dare to even question them for that,” he said. He demanded strong punishment for the forces involved in the desecration of Holy Quran. He, however, said that everybody is aware of the role of investigating agencies and end result of inquiries and commission in such cases. “in the recent past such exercises have turned to be futile and time buying instruments to protect the forces. So far no force personnel has been indicted or either awarded punishment in the government inquiries and commissions,” Mirwaiz added.

Democratic Freedom Party
The Democratic Freedom Party while condemning the incidents, termed these as an example of the worst ‘state terrorism’.
In a statement, a spokesman of the Party prayed for the martyred civilians and expressed solidarity with their families. He has also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

National Front
Senior seperatist leader and National Front chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan, who is under house arrest, while condemning these incidents, said, “It has become a routine of the puppet rulers to kill the innocent people and clamp curfew so that people could neither mourn nor protest against the killers.”
Rejecting the probe announced by the government, Khan, in a statement today, said, “The puppets are using the term probe only to deceive people. They announced the same probe in the recent Sumbal killings as well where the murderers are already identified. In the same way the BSF men are involved in the killings at Gool. So the first step should have been the arrest of the officers of the BSF camp but the puppets are trying to kill time so that people forget the incident.”

JKLF
Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front led by Muhammad Yasin Malik, while condemning the incident said, “the officers and Indian leaders have started spreading stories based on lies and injustice to justify Gool massacre.”
“The government especially TV channels working as Hitlers have either completely blacked out or misinterpreted the quoted the Gool incidents,” said a spokesman of the Front in a statement today, adding that “oppression, tyrannical measures, curfew politics and use of brutal force will see its end soon and the sacred blood of innocent Kashmiris will come out as last winners.”

JKLF (R)
JKLF (R) Chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bita Karatey has expressed its resentment and anger over the incidents, terming these as the height of oppression and state terrorism in Kashmir.

Mahaz-e-Azadi
Condemning the incidents, the chief patron Jammu Kashmir Mahaz-e-Azadi (MeA) Muhammad Azam Inqilabi said, “The desecration of Holy Quran in 1931 gave rise to resistance movement which ended the Maharaja Hari Singh’s autocratic rule in Kashmir. Today after 82 years the sacrilegious act at Gool has infused momentum to the liberation struggle.”
Democratic Liberation Party

Democratic Liberation Party chairman Hashim Qureshi, while condemning the incidents, said, “There is no justification whatsoever for forces to resort to indiscriminate firing on the unarmed demonstrators.”

RTI Movement
Strongly condemning Gool killings, the J&K RTI Movement said, “We consider such civilian killings as worst part of state terrorism and demand that the killers who enjoy impunity under AFSPA be punished.  We understand that not even a single man in khaki involved in such killings have been prosecuted so far. Probes and enquiries are mere eyewash and are not worth even the paper they are written upon.”

KEA
Expressing serious concern over the incidents, KEA has termed these as highly condemnable.
KEA has decided to send a team in due course of time from Kashmir to “extend moral support and determine what possible assistance can be extended to our brothers in Gool in general and the business fraternity in particular.”

MLA Inderwal

Imam Hazratbal
Molvi Bashir Ahmad Farooqui, Imam & Khateeb of Dargah Hazratbal, while addressing Friday prayer meeting today, strongly condemned the desecration of Holy Quran and subsequent bloodbath.
Farooqui urged the government to arrest the BSF personnel involved in the sacrilege and then making the innocent unarmed protesters as cannon fodder. “I demand the arrest of DC and SP Ramban and other J&K cops for their overt and covert role in the carnage,” he said.

MC, JKLF (H)
