Save electricity

This refers to the article by Abrar-Ul-Haq “Save electricity, illuminate life” (GK July 9,2013). The author has shown a good comparison between incandescent lamps and CFLs. He has recommended some approaches to the government (which is already running in loss) by asking them to replace incandescent lamps by CFLs. Power Development Department (PDD) is not in a position to provide funds for
replacing incandescent lamps by CFLs. One more technical point is that in our valley  voltage always drops during winters and CFLs cannot work on low voltage. So, we cannot use CFLs during winters. For this purpose the department has to raise the voltage above 180V, practically which is not possible here due to long HT and LT lines, less efficient distribution transformers. Overall the idea of replacing incandescent lamps by CFLs is very good but the department has to take essential steps to increase voltage and consider other factors.
