KHALID GUL

Srinagar, July 19: A young innovator from Kashmir Friday returned the Rajya Puraskar as a mark of protest against the firing incident in Ramban that left four persons dead and several others injured.
"I have decided to renounce the award conferred on me in the field of social service by the then state Governor S K Sinha," Mirza Idrees-ul-Haq Beigh told Greater Kashmir.
He said it was painful to see that religious and cultural rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir were being violated inhumanly under the cover of draconian laws like AFSPA and DAA.
“I have been right from my childhood days committed to the service of the humanity and the nation. But the human rights violations perpetrated by the armed forces and incidents like that of Ramban have always made me feel sad Beigh,” he said and added; “I have therefore taken this step as a mark of resistance to basic human rights violations.”
Idrees (24) a young innovator from Lal Bazar area of Srinagar has several innovations to his name including self-charging cellphone that uses body heat, non-conventional geothermal based AC systems, SMS based non-conventional water pump and solar Kangri.
The budding engineer from MIET Jammu showcased his innovation during science Congress at Jammu University in 2011. The concept of self-charging mobiles using body heat gained popularity soon and was appreciated not only in India but abroad as well.
Idrees was awarded the Rajya Puraskar (Governor’s Award) by then Governor S K Sinha in the field of social services as a scout. He is also the founder of a voluntary group called Social Royal Voluntary.
