Why was Zaina Kadal bridge repaired?

HERE I am divulging a sad piece of tale. At last our culture is being artistically bulldozed: The old Zaina Kadal Bridge in an example.
The government in the name of renovation and strengthening of the existing structure of old bridge undertook its repairs. But how disgusting! Prior to the repairs, despite the dilapidated condition of the bridge, the light as well as heavy vehicles were plying over it unhesitatingly. But now after the so called repairs, the old scintillating bridge has virtually been rendered defunct. A worst conspiracy:  Grotesque rampant onslaught of our heritage. No heavy vehicle is now allowed to ply on it. The barricades were raised disallowing the heavy vehicles to cross the bridge. A common pedestrian, shopkeepers, residents and transporters of the locality have lodged strong protest on lackadaisical attitude of the government for keeping silence over the issue. This needs a thorough probe.
Simultaneously, a team of experts should be put on job for maintenance and upkeep of the old bridge, which happens to be the only old existing bridge in Kashmir.  The civil society should come forward in this regard.
