MMM flays Shinde’s statement
Urges People To Observe ‘Civil Curfew’ Today
Srinagar, Mar 12: Muttahida Majlis Mushawarat, an amalgam of separatist organizations in Kashmir, Tuesday denounced the Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s statement in which he ruled out handing over the body of Muhammad Afzal Guru to his family, saying “it reflects New Delhi’s arrogance.”
“This also proves that the government of India is treating Kashmiris as slaves whose sentiments and emotions it does not give any value to. On the one hand, several prominent personalities of government of India have acknowledged the fact that Muhammad Afzal Guru was not provided justice and that the way he was hanged was not civilized. Shinde’s brazen refusal to hand over Guru’s body to his family proves it beyond any shade of doubt that government of India is set itself to trample upon the sentiments of Kashmiris. But this all is not new to Kashmiris and they do not expect any fair deal from New Delhi,” said a spokesman of the MMM in a statement today, adding that “Shinde’s statement makes pitiable the position of pro-India politicians and parties who have always been claiming that India is well-wisher of Kashmiris and values their sentiments.”
Meanwhile, MMM has reiterated its civil curfew call for March 13, Wednesday, urging the people to make it a complete success “to convey a clear message to government of India that Kashmiris are not going to surrender before its dictatorial and arrogant approach.”
“Malis is convening a meeting soon to discuss Shinde’s statement and chalk a strategy,” the spokesman said.
