Stage protests after Friday prayers: MMM

Srinagar, Mar 14: Asking people to follow its already-announced protest program in letter and spirit, the Mutahida Majlis-e-Mashawarat (MMM), a united forum of separatists, Thursday said imams of Kashmir masjids should lead protest march after Friday congregational prayers to press for the return of mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru. The MMM also condemned the killing of youth by armed forces in Kashmir.
A spokesman of MMM said local imams should hold ‘Qunoot Nazila’ (special prayers) during the congregational Friday prayers. “The imams of the masjids should lead protests soon after Friday prayers and demand the return of mortal remains of Bhat and Guru,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman said on Saturday, only male students of colleges and universities should hold protests and raise slogans in favour of return of mortal remains of Bhat and Guru. “It is unfortunate that while the entire Kashmiri nation is seeking the return of remains of Bhat and Guru but the Government of India instead of accepting the demand is killing Kashmiri people every day. Ironically, we are not allowed to raise voice against the killings of our youth,” the MMM spokesman said.
The MMM also termed the DGP Ashok Prasad’s statement that those demanding return of Guru’s body will be slapped with PSA as “frustration.” “The return of Guru’s body is a public demand which is being represented by MMM. Government of India will have to finally accept this demand,” the spokesman said.
