8 new MLCs to be administered oath today


Jammu, Mar 17: Eight newly elected Member Legislative Councils (MLCs) will be administered oath of office here on Monday.
Official sources said that the Chairman Upper House, Amrit Malhota, will be administering oath to the newly elected MLCs at 2 PM here on Monday. They included Rani Biloria of Congress, Naresh Kumar and Muzaffar Parray of Congress; Devender Singh Rana, Showkat Hussain Ganai and Abdul Majid Bhat of National Conference and Naeem Akhtar and Yashpal Sharma of Peoples Democratic Party.
“Yes oath ceremony has been fixed for tomorrow and the newly elected members can participate in the ongoing Budge Session proceedings immediately after that”, Malhota told Greater Kashmir.
With reelection of two MLCs, six members of the Upper House have already retired on Friday after completing their six years term on Monday.
The members, who retired included M Y Taing, former Minister R S Chib, Murtaza Ahmad Khan, Nizam-ud-Din Khatana, Haji Ali Mohammad Bhat and Mohammad Amin Bhat.
While Biloria, Rana and Yashpal Sharma were elected unopposed from Jammu seats, all others, including PDP’s Naeem Akhtar, managed a comfortable win in a one sided contest.
