Srinagar, Mar 20: Nauroz festival, which marks the first day of the Spring is being celebrated across the state tomorrow.
Nauroz, which means “New Day”, marks the first day of spring and is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, which usually falls on March 21 every year.
Chief Minister Omer Abdullah greeted the people on the eve of Nauroz. “I express the hope that the day will herald a new era of peace and progress in the state,” he said in his message.
CM also highlighted the significance of March 21 as the World Arbor Day and called for massive plantation across the state on this day. Governor NN Vohra has also greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Nauroz. In his message the Governor said; “The festival has both cultural and religious significance. As the day is also being observed as World Arbor Day so we should emphasize to plant the maximum number of trees for preserving the environment.”
While felicitating the people on the auspicious day, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Ali Muhammad Sagar hoped that it will also bring peace in the state and usher prosperity and development.
Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir extended greetings to the people on the occasion of new calendar year.
In his message, Mir said the new calendar year (Nauroz) will bring peace, communal harmony and prosperity to the people of the State.
Peoples Democratic Party has greeted people on Nauroz.
Extending the greetings to the people, party patron Mufti Muhammed Sayeed and president Mehbooba Mufti prayed for peace, development and tranquility in the state.
CPI (M) state secretary MY Tarigami and Hakeem Muhammad Yasin have also extended greetings to the people.
