100 ill after consuming ‘spurious’ Wazwan
Kulgam, May 28: More than 100 people have fallen sick after consuming Kashmiri Wazwan at a marriage party at Muhammad-Pora village of this South Kashmir district.
Reports said the villagers complained of vomiting and dysentery soon after they consumed the feast. “They might have taken something at the marriage party that might have caused the food poisoning,” said a doctor attending on the sick.
“The sick were immediately referred to the local Primary Health Centre. Some of them were referred to District Hospital Kulgam and District Hospital Anantnag,” he said.
Maintaining that the situation was under control, Block Medical Officer (BMO), Dr Ahmad Ahmad said, “We immediately deputed a medical team from the Kulgam District Hospital to the village to treat the patients. Some patients were referred to other hospitals. However their condition is stated to be normal.”
Earlier this month around 150 people were diagnosed with food poisoning in Sirhama village of Bijbehara in Islamabad district after they consumed food at a marriage party. The poisoning was caused due to the consumption of expired packed mushrooms.
