Geelani Thanks People Of Shopian For Observing Shutdown

Shopian , May 30: Accusing the state institutions of shielding the perpetrators of Shopian double rape and murder case, Shakeel Ahmad Ahangar, brother of Asiya and husband of Neelofar, Thursday said the biggest tribute from people to them would be to “stay away from pro-Indian politics.”
“The entire international community is well aware that it was the armed forces who committed rape and murder of Asiya and Neelofar and it’s the state institutions that shielded the culprits,” Ahangar told media-persons at his residence
He said India was “carrying out worst kind of repression on Kashmiris through its military might and rape is being used as a tool to subdue their just cause.” “Kashmiris have been rendering tremendous sacrifices and they will soon bear their fruit. But the need of the hour is to exhibit resilience and steadfast approach to movement,” he said.
Urging people to stay away from pro-India and election politics, Ahangar said, “We have to show commitment and not fall prey to the deceitful pro-India politics. That would be the biggest tribute to Asiya and Neelofar.”
He said, “Casting votes and participating in rallies of pro-Indian parties only weakens the freedom struggle.”
Shakeel hailed the people of Kashmir and Shopian for standing by him in his fight for justice. “I owe a lot to the people of Shopian who sustained the movement of fight for justice to Asiya and Neelofar and also all Kashmiris who even laid their lives for the cause,” he said.
Ahangar said he would take the fight to its logical conclusion.
Meanwhile members of Hurriyat Conference (M) including Zafar Akbar Bhat, Yasmin Raja and Hakeem Gulam Nabi of Peoples League visited the victims’ family. The members of Majlis-e-Mashawrat Shopian were present in the house of Shakeel Ahmad Ahanger for the whole day. Many social activists also visited the house.
Geelani thanks people
Meanwhile Geelani while thanking people of Shopian for observing shutdown on the 4th anniversary of Asiya and Neelofar said, “Unless and until the culprits are punished for the heinous crime, the resistance and protests would continue.”
He said the day has a “remarkable importance and it is a symbolic day to register protest against the crime perpetrated by armed forces against the women in Kashmir.”
