Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee denounces police action
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Nov 13: Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee has denounced, what it said, the unprovoked police action against Muharram mourners at Batamaloo and Kak Sarai here.
“Dozens of peaceful mourners were injured as a result of baton charge and teargas shelling by the police,” a spokesman of the Committee said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Committee earlier in the day today, on the instructions of Amir Muttehida-Majlis-e-Ulema (MUU) and Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, organized several meetings and gatherings to strengthen unity and foil the evil designs of miscreants. One such gathering was convened by Imam and Khateeb of Mirza Akmal-u-Din Badakshi (RA) shrine and Anjuma-e-Himayat-ul-Islam leader, Khurshid Ahmad Qanungo.
The participants sternly condemned the government imposed ban on Muharram procession.
The meeting further decided to establish two control rooms--- one in Mirza Akmal-u-Din Hawal and the other at Hawal Chowk. “Representatives of both the Shia and Sunni communities were asked to monitor the ongoing situation through these control rooms,” the spokesman added.
