Govt delays pension payments

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Sep 4: Retired government employees and family pensioners today accused the Finance Department of delaying release of pension payments.
Scores of pensioners complained that they had to return disappointed from the banks and treasuries “as pension was not credited into our accounts.”
The pensioners said the bank officials concerned “informed us that the money has not come from the treasuries.”
“The government treats us like second class citizens. We are even deprived of the benefit that is our right,” they said.
Amina, a 70-year old pensioner, who had to returned back from Khanyar treasury said: “I had asked my grandson to come with me here to draw money but here officials told me that funds have not been released so far,” she said.
Many pensioners said this had happened for the first in past many years that “we could not get the pension on time.”
“We are not able to work at this advanced age. We meet our expenses including those on account of medication out of our pension. Once we are not in a position to get pension, how can we pay for our expenses,” they said.
However, a senior official of Accounts and Treasuries, Finance Department, said that pension funds had been disbursed on September 3.
“From today onwards they can draw their pension,” he said.
