Invitees come in private jets
5 tycoons given permission to land their planes in Srinagar
Srinagar, Sep 6: The Zubin Mehta concert on Saturday will see several corporate tycoons of India arriving here in their private jets to enjoy the 90-minute Bavarian State Orchestra in Shalimar Garden on the banks of Dal Lake.
Authorities at the Srinagar Airport said so far they have given permission to five persons for landing their private planes at the airport Saturday in connection with the concert.
“They are all top businessman and industrialists of India,” said a senior official at the airport, refusing to divulge the details.
The Zubin show - Ehsaas-e-Kashmir (The Feeling of Kashmir)- is being organized by German Embassy with assistance from the Government of India and J&K Government.
Ambassadors of European countries in New Delhi, film stars, bureaucrats and bigwigs from corporate India are among 1,500 invitees to the show, first of its kind in Kashmir.
The official said they were expecting more people to apply for permission of landing by this evening and early morning Saturday.
“We have been contacted by people seeking permission. Some famous people are coming along with their families,” he said. “Everything will be clear by tomorrow afternoon.”
An official said the stage was ready for the orchestra. Prefabricated 70-feet by 50-feet podium has been created on the second terrace of the garden where Zubin would play the symphonies of Beethoven, Haydn and Tchaikovsky. The concert will be telecast live in about 100 countries. Authorities have beefed up security around the venue to ensure the show passes smoothly.
All roads leading to the venue have been sealed and vehicular traffic would not be allowed on the roads leading to it from 1 pm on September 7. Scores of CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the concert venue.
