Srinagar/Jammu, Dec 11: National Conference today welcomed government’s approval to the 328 km long Bhatinda-Jammu-Srinagar gas pipeline project, terming it as ‘historic’.
“The project will provide uninterrupted gas supply to the state and bring huge relief to the people in Kashmir valley,” said National Conference spokesman Tanvir Sadiq.
He said: “The pipeline will relieve the pressure on availability of domestic gas. It will also help generate employment."
“The project will make transportation of gas increasingly economical,” he added.
“As per the instructions of the CM the laying of the pipeline will start from both Srinagar and Bhatinda simultaneously so that gas is supplied to both the cities of Jammu and Srinagar at the same time,” he said.
The NC spokesman said: “The project will also become an important source of electricity during situations when demand goes high. It will also become a widely used primary source of heating and cooking.”
