Kishtwar civil society members protest over Article 35-A

Members of civil society Chenab valley, district  unit Kishtwar, today held a strong protest in front of district court complex Kishtwar against “proposed abrogation of Article 35A”.

A large number of people and civil society activists joined the protest. The people raised slogans against the proposed abrogation of 35-A, a statement here said.

District president, PAF Kishtwar,  Shakir Sadiqui  addressed a huge gathering and condemned “efforts of the central government to abrogate Article 35-A.”

He said that both the governments at the state as well as at the centre should “resolve the issue without touching the article 35-A.” 

Social activist Naseer Ahmad Bhagwan also addressed the gathering. He criticized the “polices of the state and the central governments in this regard.”

He informed the gathering about the “bad impact” the state will have by the abrogation of the article in question.

In his speech Bhagwan asked the government of India “to stop trying to change the demography of the disputed Jammu and Kashmir.”

He appealed the central government to “resolve Kashmir dispute peacefully.”

“If the central government is sincere to resolve long pending Jammu and Kashmir dispute then it should create peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir and start talks with real stakeholders,” he said.
