Following suspicious attack on a camp of General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) in Akhnoor sector, Director General BRO Lieutenant General Suresh Sharma has asked the local field Commanders to carry out security audit of all formations of the border organization to tackle any future eventuality.
“The DG was on a two day visit of Jammu to review security situation of BRO formations,” said Jammu based defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta. He said the officer also took stock of various development projects.
As per a defence spokesperson, Lt Gen Sharma conducted an extensive 2 day tour to review over all security situations of BRO formations and interacted with various stakeholders.
General Officer visited Jammu based Project Sampark and interacted with Chief Engineer PKH Singh, where he reviewed security situation of GREF detachments in Jammu region and other BRO assets.
“Lt Gen Suresh Sharma also visited Battal Camp site, where suspected militants raided on the intervening night of January 9 and 10 and killed three civilian labourers,” defense sources said, adding, “General Officer met local Army Formation commanders and stressed on the need for close co-ordination between BRO and Army for overall security of BRO Camps”.
Later, the DG met Chief Minister, J&K Mehbooba Mufti and discussed various issues regarding progress of projects, security concerns and assistance to dependants of those killed in militant attack.
General officer also inspected Kalai Bridge in Poonch which is under completion and drove on Surankote-Bafliaz-Thanamandi-Rajouri road to get first hand information as this road is gateway to Mugal road and is under up-gradation to double lane.
He also took stock of progress on Rajouri- Kandi – Budhal road.
