Chain Hunger Strike: 2 more striking workers fall unconscious, hospitalized

Two more workers of Baglihar Hydro Electric Project Chanderkote engaged by Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation fell unconscious during chain hunger strike in the court yard of Chief Engineer BHEP Chanderkote on Wednesday.

Both were shifted to District Hospital Ramban for treatment by their colleagues.

They were identified as Muhammad Sakhi son of Muhammad Fareed of Halla Ramban and Tariq Ahmed Dar son of Abdul Rasheed Dar resident of Chanderkote.

Doctors treating them at hospital said both the workers fell unconscious due dehydration both were responding to the treatment.

Earlier, three workers sitting on hunger strike had fainted and were admitted in district hospital for treatment.

It is pertinent to mention here that daily wagers and need based workers after remaining on strike for more than a month had intensified their strike on November 14 by sitting on chain hunger strike in the court yard of Chief Engineer BHEP Chanderkote.

President of the union said that it is very ironic that the management of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation and state government are not paying attention towards their genuine demand to regularize the services of daily wagers and need based workers of BHEP Chanderkote engaged by JKSPDC in 2000.  Due to hunger strike and cold the health of workers deteriorating day by day they alleged.
