The use of force by police on Gujjars who were protesting against the murder of eight-year-old girl in Hiranagar area of Kathua district echoed in the Legislative Assembly on Monday, with legislators seeking action against the policemen involved in the lathi-charge.

As soon as proceedings of the House began, Congress MLA GM Saroori slammed the police for using force on protesters in Kathua on Sunday.

“Many people were injured in police action. This is not the way,” he said.

The minor girl, found dead near her native village Rassana in Hiranagar on Jan 17, had been missing since January 10 when she had taken some horses for grazing in the neighborhood.

Police have arrested a minor boy who they said strangulated the girl in a cowshed.
