Tensions again gripped on the Jammu outskirts after army lodged an FIR with Jammu police today over an alleged incident of stone pelting at Sunjwan military station here on Friday.

Defence sources said that yesterday’s stone pelting at the army post was the first of such incident in Jammu. “Taking it as a serious security concern, the army immediately brought the matter to the notice of the local police, who are responsible for the security of surrounding of military station.”

It may be recalled that the camp had come under militant attack on February 10.

Sources said the army lodged a complaint/FIR with police station Trikuta Nagar and alleged stone pelting by some unidentified persons on “a post in Sunjwan military station, on Friday.”

After this incident, the police and army increased vigil in the peripheries.

“The stone pelting was done on sentry post, which is adjacent to the area which was suspected entry point of the militants during the recent attack,” defence sources said and added that the police “acted very promptly and handled the situation effectively”.

“The police also carried out thorough checks and search in the area from where the stone pelting was reported,” a senior police officer said, who did not want to share more details.

He however, added, “Some suspects involved in the stone pelting were identified and are presently under the surveillance of police teams”.
