In response to ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanding compensation for Next of Kin (NoK) of those killed during Amarnath land agitation in 2008, in Jammu the Speaker, JK Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, today directed the state government to consider the demand.

He also directed the government to take back cases against the people who were booked during Tiranga Yatra. Earlier, the BJP demanded that if compensation is being provided to the families of those killed during Kashmir unrest, the government should also provide compensation to the families of those who were killed during Amarnath land agitation in Jammu in 2008. 

While speaking during Motion of thanks on Governor’s Address in the Legislative Assembly, the BJP State President and MLA, Sat Sharma said, “Government is providing compensation to the families of those killed during 2010 and 2016 unrest, it is ok, but it should also give compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those who were killed and injured during Amarnath agitation.”

He also demanded that besides compensation, government should also provide a job to the Next of Kin (NoK) of those were killed and injured in 2008 agitation. 

“Think of Jammu people who agitated while holding Tiranga (Tricolor) in their hands, the government must provide compensation to them also,” Sat Sharma said.

“Not only the common people, but security force personnel also lost their lives in Kashmir. The government should think about them also as it will send a good message,” he added. 

Later, the Speaker directed the government to provide compensation to the families of those killed in 2008 Amarnath agitation besides take back cases against the people who were booked during Tiranga Yatra which was taken out by BJP.
